ASLEF action halts MML

25 October 2007

Managers are running a tiny handful of trains on Midland Mainline today as the ASLEF strike hit home in the dispute about pensions.

Keith Norman said that ASLEF only takes industrial action when managers leave the union no alternative.

‘While the action demonstrated the unity of purpose of our members, it is unbelievable that managers refused to negotiate constructively following a ballot showing over 86% support for industrial action.

‘Perhaps after today’s action they will be prepared to talk to our negotiators in a meaningful way. It is regrettable that they need to be coerced to the negotiating table.’
