ASLEF backs French Rail Workers

Mick Whelan has written to Gilbert Garrel, general secretary of the CGT Cheminots (the French rail workers) expressing ASLEF’s support and solidarity in their dispute with the government over the restructuring of French railways. Their resistance to tired and outdated EU dogma (the failed agenda of liberalisation and privatisation which has pushed up prices and allowed private firms to get their snouts in the public trough) is an inspiration to rail workers throughout the world.

Mick welcomes Crossrail news

08 June 2014

Mick Whelan, general secretary of ASLEF, has welcomed news today that Crossrail 2 could be opened in 2029 - four years earlier than planned. Mick said: 'Crossrail 2 isn't just good for London, and those people living in London, and commuting into the capital to work, it's good for the whole country. Investment in infrastructure is vital. We need to build a better railway to build a better Britain.'
