General secretary Mick Whelan spoke at a Campaign for Labour Party Democracy fringe meeting at the Queen's Hotel on Monday night and at a Justice for Colombia fringe meeting at the Hilton Metropole on Tuesday night. EC president Tosh McDonald spoke to conference from the podium on composite motion 7 about rail on Tuesday afternoon.
Mick elected to NEC

ASLEF's general secretary Mick Whelan – who is already chair of TULO – was elected to the national executive committee of the Labour Party on Monday in a sign of the growing importance and influence of ASLEF in the Labour Party and the labour movement. ‘I want to thank all those who supported me,’ said Mick. ‘It’s a great privilege for me, and my union, to be elected to this position.’

Further discussions between ASLEF and GTR have taken place today [Thursday] and significant progress has been made. We are now in the process of finalising a proposal for agreement.
